Our season doesn’t usually start until early April, but this year we were asked to cater for the Unlimited dance company’s inaugural dance showcase at West Buckland School! It was a fantastic event, Sarah and her crew of helpers really pulled out the stops and we have to applaud them for their efforts as we know how hard organising events can be. Our brief was to create a crowd pleasing food menu as well as an intimate bar service, where space was at a premium so had to be smart with the space we took up. As guests arrived, we served welcome drinks which were courtesy of Sarah and the unlimited dance company this gave everyone a nice drink to wet the whistle and settle them in for a few hours of high quality dancing!
The food menu we served included a choice of either a hearty pot roasted chicken served with shallots and thyme or a vegetable wellington with vegetable jus. As the goal of the event was to bring the dance families and community together we decided to serve the main protein, in this case the chicken or wellington, on the main plate hot from the mobile kitchen. With the accompanying trimmings of home roasted potatoes, purple sprouting broccoli, paprika roasted butternut squash and cream leeks in larger wooden sharing bowls. This was to encourage the guests to share and create a relaxed atmosphere around the tables. For dessert we again decided on the sharing platters and created mountains of freshly made chocolate profiteroles with fresh cream and chocolate sauce as well as the famous New Coast Eton tidy! Needless to say it went down a storm and with everyone filled with delicious food they could grab a drink from the bar and enjoy the last few dances!
I am no dancer, I mean I can move but dancing is not something I would say is my thing but myself and the whole of the New Coast team who were on site, were so impressed with the quality of the dancing! We found ourselves watching when we 100% should have been cleaning down. This was a great way to kick off the season early and using our mobile kitchen which we parked right outside the school hall which made for the perfect spot to serve from, shame about the weather… It was freezing. At the bar we set up the satellite bar which has been designed for exactly this size of event, tight spot but still able to produce a full bar menu quickly and effectively. We all really enjoyed working with the UDC team and can’t wait for this COVID-19 to do one so we can get planning the next events!!
Thanks again Sarah and team speak soon.
